The 2010 Nedbank South African Paracycling National Championships were held in Port Elizabeth between 27 and 29 March 2010. Organised through excellent cooperation between the South African Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (SASAPD) and Cycling South Africa's Regional Affiliate, EP Cycling, the National Championships produced everything that was expected of them. A number of South African records were established in both the junior and senior track events and the time trial and road race were characterised by some very competitive cycling. Ernst Mans, who broke two South African track records, was nominated as the championship's outstanding junior cyclist. Goldie Fuchs received this accolade in the senior division for his tricycling wins in both the time trial and road race, beating one Paralympian and one World Championship SA team member in doing so.
The Local Organizing Committee, led by Johann Nell, must be complimented on the selection and preparation of the championship venues and routes and for the organization of the event overall logistics. Many people deserve credit for their efforts supporting the championships - marshals, team managers and, importantly, the cyclists who participated. In particular, Karin Burns played an essential role receiving the cyclists registrations, preparing the startlists and processing the results.
The results of the National Championships will inform the selection of the South African paracycling teams that will participate in a number of UCI international championships in 2010. These include the Wales Grand Prix track event, the Spanish and Canadian World Cup events and the World Championships to be hosted by Canada.
